Vegetables are widely known for their health benefits for humans, but are they right for dogs? The short answer is yes. However, there are other things to consider when feeding vegetables to your beloved dog. For instance, can you use frozen vegetables as treats for dogs? Or are all vegetables humans eat suitable for dogs?
Fresh vegetables are always a good idea when it comes to providing your dog the needed fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to keep them healthy. However, fresh vegetables are not always easily accessible, and they can be too expensive to buy when they are out of season. Your next best option is to use frozen veggies for your dogs. It has less sodium than its canned counterparts, thus, healthier for your dog. Furthermore, if vegetables are frozen right after harvesting, they contain just as much nutritional value as fresh ones.

If you’re freezing fresh vegetables for your dog to be used when the veggies are out of season, it’s important to remember not to put any seasoning before freezing them. Cut them up into bite-sized treats before blanching them for 1 to 2 minutes. Place them in cold water before placing them in sealed bags for the freezer.
Use chopped carrots or peas as low-calorie treats for your dog. Veggie stalks and broccoli stems also make great treats.

You can also purchase pre-frozen vegetables but make sure that they do not include any of the veggies that are toxic for dogs, including onions, chives, and garlic. Furthermore, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, or eggplants may have some toxic compounds that cause inflammation to your dog.
Veggies are great alternatives for treats or toppers for dog food especially for weight reduction and improved digestion.
